Joseph Hookway is the Emerging Artist Casting Officer at Scottish Opera, where he supports casting activity and the Emerging Artist Singers.

Prior to joining Scottish Opera, Joseph trained as a tenor and worked as Concerts and Prizes Administrator at the Royal Academy of Music, Community Engagement Programme Manager for The Bach Choir, and House Manager at St James’s Piccadilly. In these roles, he contributed to programming, producing and audience engagement, developing a nuanced and practical understanding of both the creative and logistical aspects of the performing arts. 

He is particularly interested in supporting the professional development of artists at different stages of their careers, fostering collaboration across disciplines and the wider industry, and broadening access to opera through thoughtful programming and considered casting.

Joseph is a graduate of the Royal Academy of Music and the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, where he studied with Richard Berkeley-Steele and James Baillieu, and was mentored by Karen Cargill.
