Michael J. Bobbitt is President and CEO of OPERA America and a nationally recognized arts executive, producer, artist, and advocate working at the intersection of cultural leadership, innovation, public policy, and organizational transformation.

Previously, as Executive Director of the Mass Cultural Council, he led Massachusetts’ state arts agency, securing $60.1 million in pandemic relief, growing public investment in arts and culture, and advancing initiatives connecting culture with health, education, economic development, and entrepreneurship. He previously led New Repertory Theatre and Adventure Theatre MTC, where his work included significant audience and revenue growth, new work development, and nationally recognized innovations in accessibility.

An award-nominated playwright, director, and choreographer, Bobbitt holds an MBA in Arts Innovation and has completed executive education at Harvard Kennedy School and Harvard Business School. He is the recipient of two honorary Doctor of Fine Arts degrees and is a frequent speaker on innovation, leadership, and the future of the cultural sector.
