Dr. Claire Mera-Nelson is responsible for the development of national strategy and policy for music in England. Strategic initiatives to date have included a major research study into Fairness and Inclusion in Classical Music, securing additional government investment in the grassroots music sector as part of the Creative Industries Sector Vision and overseeing elements of the UK Government’s Culture Recovery Funds, in addition to commissioning the Let’s Create: Opera and Music Theatre Analysis. Originally a Baroque violinist working with many internationally renowned ensembles, for almost a decade prior to her current role Claire was Director of Music at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance. Known internationally as a passionate advocate for innovation and inclusion in music, Claire’s current focus is developing initiatives to enable young people from all backgrounds to access and thrive in the music industry and enabling all genres of music to flourish in a post-pandemic world.
