Speaker Bio
Hannah discovered opera by mistake aged 17. Building on that, she now has twenty years’ professional experience in the performing arts, principally in programming and participation. Hannah is just as interested in how opera can develop through creative encounters with a broad range of people, as she is in what people can learn about opera.

Hannah’s previous roles include: Senior Producer, ENO Baylis at English National Opera; Learning & Participation Manager (Opera) at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden; Head of Participation and Learning at The Göteborg Opera in Sweden. Since 2019, she has been General Manager at Birmingham Opera Company.

Hannah has taught audience development and engagement to five cohorts on the European Opera Management Course between 2016 and 2023. FEDORA (the European Circle of Opera and Ballet Philanthropists) engaged Hannah as a jury member for the 2019 and 2023 editions of their Education Prize; she is chairing the jury for the 2025 Prize. Hannah has also been a guest lecturer at various UK and European universities, and been invited by the British Council to contribute to their audience development and EDI initiatives in Italy and Germany.

Hannah has a BA Hons in Italian from Oxford University and a Master's in European Thought from University College London. She embarked on a PhD in autumn 2021, researching opera, human rights and cultural politics. She studies at the University of Warwick, funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council and Midlands4Cities.
